The Wake Forest Residential Experience

Johnson Hall

Aside from the short commute to class every morning, living in Wake Forest’s residence halls has many advantages and places you at the center of the collegiate experience. Here, you’ll find a residential experience that encourages you to be exactly who you are and explore who you want to be, surrounded by the resources necessary for each student to reach their full potential.

First-Year Residence Communities

During your first year, you’ll be assigned to one of our vibrant first-year communities. Our residential experience model, The Forest, is intentionally designed to connect students to the resources they need to thrive here.

In general, residence halls are coeducational by floor, suite, and/or wing. All rooms are equipped with beds, closets, desks, cable television connections, Wi-Fi and Ethernet connections. We include, as part of standard university furniture, a micro-fridge combination microwave-refrigerator/freezer unit. The use of laundry facilities located in every residence hall is also free to residential students.

Take a look inside.

We hope you’ll step across the literal threshold into our residence halls—and the metaphorical threshold into a world where you will be self-sufficient, but always with others there for encouragement and support.

Am I going to have to walk a lot?

Wake Forest is simple to navigate, making your short walks to class enjoyable ones. We have two Quads at the heart of campus, which you will pass through on your way to class, to grab a bite to eat at Zick’s, or to meet a professor for office hours.

Use the campus map below to get a better sense of where some of the most common places you’ll be spending your time are located.

Points of interest include first-year residence halls, dining facilities, and academic and administrative buildings. View our complete interactive campus map at map.wfu.edu.

Here’s what else you’ll need to know.

Residency Requirement

Wake Forest has a six-semester residency requirement, designed to ensure that students have the opportunity to fully experience the vibrant residential community that is central to life on campus. Living alongside classmates helps students build lasting friendships, engage in campus traditions, and make the most of the Wake Forest experience. Housing beyond the six-semester requirement is subject to availability, and Wake Forest remains committed to supporting students who wish to continue living as part of our residential community.

Room Assignments

During your first year, you’ll be randomly assigned to one of our vibrant first-year communities. While you’re not able to choose a specific building, we strive to create a welcoming environment for all. Depending on availability, first-year students may be placed in either a single or double room – you’ll answer a question about whether you’re interested in a single room on your housing application.

For those assigned to double rooms, Residence Life and Housing will pair you with a roommate based on the lifestyle questions you answer on the housing application. This thoughtful pairing process is part of the University’s commitment to fostering connections and helping you meet new people from diverse backgrounds.

Housing and Meal Plans

All first-year students are required to live on campus. To apply, submit your housing application using your ‘@wfu.edu’ credentials beginning in late March/early April. Students will receive an automatic email from Residence Life and Housing once they are able to access the Housing Portal.

The application deadline is June 1, 2026.
