Where Will I Live?
The Residential Experience at Wake Forest
Aside from the short commute to class every morning, living in Wake Forest’s residence halls has many advantages and places you at the center of the collegiate experience. Here, you’ll find a residential experience where you can thrive socially and intellectually alongside your peers within a secure, comfortable, inclusive, and engaging learning community.

During your first year at Wake Forest, you will typically live in a residence hall on South Campus. We call this South Forest.

Am I going to have to walk a lot?
Wake Forest is simple to navigate, making your short walks to class enjoyable ones. We have two Quads at the heart of campus, which you will pass through on your way to class, to grab a bite to eat at Zick’s, or to meet a professor for office hours.
Use the campus map below to get a better sense of where some of the most common places you’ll be spending your time are located.
Points of interest include first-year residence halls, dining facilities, and academic and administrative buildings. View our complete interactive campus map at map.wfu.edu.
A look at your home away from home
In general, residence halls are coeducational by floor, suite, and/or wing. All rooms are equipped with beds, wardrobe units/closets, desks, Wi-Fi and Ethernet connections. We include, as part of standard university furniture, a combination microwave-refrigerator/freezer unit. The use of laundry facilities located in every residence hall is also free to residential students.

Things you need to know
Residency Requirement and Senior Intent
Wake Forest has a six-semester residency requirement and is committed to providing housing to students who request to live on-campus after fulfilling the residency requirement. Students are expected to fulfill the residency requirement consecutively and are required to live in campus housing their first three years unless they live with a parent or guardian at a permanent Forsyth County or contiguous county address. Students should not sign a lease for any off-campus property before fulfilling this requirement or being released in writing by the Office of Residence Life and Housing.
Room Assignments
During your first year, you will typically live in one of our communities on South Campus.
You will be assigned to one of these communities at random. As such, students are not asked or able to indicate preferences.
New students may be assigned to a single or double room based on their preferences and availability. Note that students assigned to single rooms are charged at the single rate.
Housing and Meal Plans
All first-year students will complete a Housing Application during the summer via our Housing Portal. This application is available in early May each year.
What’s Provided by RLH?
Each residence hall room includes:
- Extra-long twin bed (36″ by 80″)
- Dresser
- Desk and chair
- Window blinds
- Closet or wardrobe unit
- MicroFridge® appliance (combination microwave/refrigerator-freezer unit)
- Recycling tote
- The on-campus housing package includes access to streaming cable TV.
- Laundry is free and available in each community.
What if I still have questions?
We’ve provided some additional info below. If you would like more information, or have questions, please contact our RL&H team. Here’s how to do that.
Additional Information
Wake Forest University views living on campus as integral to a liberal arts education and the Wake Forest experience. As such, the University has a six-semester (three-year) residency requirement. In support of students with disabilities, the Office of Residence Life and Housing has a wide variety of housing and dining options on campus that can accommodate the vast majority of disability needs.
Students who would like to request a disability-related accommodation should visit our housing and dining accommodations page. Students should provide documents for disability-related accommodations by July 1.
Important note: if you have a documented disability and used accommodations in high school, be sure to complete the housing and dining accommodations request form. Some students want to try college without those accommodations and later discover they wished they’d had the accommodation from the beginning. In addition, our ability to meet a student’s needs is much more limited after housing assignments have been made, so we strongly encourage students to request accommodations by the July 1 deadline.
Wake Forest University offers an All-Gender Housing offering for incoming students desiring to live in a mixed-sex living environment. For incoming students, this will be rooms/suites clustered together in an area of a residence hall with private bathrooms (toilet and shower areas).
As a part of this process, students will be asked to complete additional questions on their Housing and Dining Application. Students who request All-Gender Housing will then be contacted by staff from the Office of Residence Life and Housing to discuss the best way to accommodate their housing needs. During the process, no student will be asked to disclose their sexual orientation, gender identity, or gender expression.
In addition to having access to a variety of spaces and programs, you will be surrounded by a trained staff of helpful and caring Resident Advisers (RAs), a Graduate Hall Director (GHD), and a master’s-level, live-in Community Director (CD). The staff work consistently to answer questions and provide support. The staff offers consistent support and guidance as students build community and create a home at Wake!
Floor meetings, intentional connections, and community events provide avenues for continued learning and opportunities to meet with fellow new Deacs. Getting to know those living in your community will help Wake feel like home!
Students will also have the opportunity to engage in and represent their community as a part of our Residence Hall Association, which works to build community “for the residents by the residents.”
